We value our people, and we understand that nobody wants to be in a dead-end job. That’s why we help our people grow at Vodafone. Everyone has a genuine opportunity to expand on their skills, while developing new skills along the way.
We’re big on equal opportunity, but don’t just take our word for it, read these firsthand stories from some of the many people who have grown with us
Getting to where I am at Vodafone has been a truly inspiring journey. I joined the Vodafone team after studying Occupational Therapy at uni, and spending some time working in rehabilitation, and health and safety.
After three years, which included the merger, I started doing this job, which I love. Most recently I’ve now moved into managing the shared services function of the HR team and I also support our legal and regulatory function. I’m very lucky to lead a team of engaged and remarkable individuals I really believe in. I can’t wait to see what we’ll achieve together.
During my journey, I’ve learnt that growth isn’t just about the next role. It’s about spotting opportunities every single day which will stretch you further. You can make anything happen if you put your mind to it. Growth is all about trusting your instincts and being yourself.
When you put yourself forward for a new challenge, the power’s in your hands.
In 2005, I got back from a stint overseas inspired to do something different. I showed up to a cattle call at The Establishment in Sydney; 3 Mobile were hiring to assist with the Orange migration, so I thought I would give it a crack. After starting as a casual sales assistant at Bondi, I was blown away with how much knowledge I had to absorb!
From there, I progressed to a fulltime role, followed by two assistant manager roles at St. Leonards and George Street. When a job came up in the devices team at head office in St. Leonards, I jumped at it. Initially a technical role, it morphed into more of a communications and marketing remit. I got to play with all the cool new toys – months before they hit the stores.
When we merged in 2009 I started looking after handset launches across both brands. Now I’ve just started a new role focusing on bringing excitement and driving revenue in our mobile accessories category.
Pretty massive… further than I ever imagined... and I still get to play with all the cool new toys!
Telecommunications had always interested me because it is such a fast-paced, competitive industry. I started as a casual in 3 Mobile, Miranda retail in 2007, whilst also studying a Bachelor of Commerce.
I’d always wanted to work in product marketing and within a year I had begun to make it happen through the Get Set and Grow program. Starting as a product specialist, I helped bring our international calling pack, Talk International, to life.
I learnt loads, including working with external vendors, wholesale tendering and product lifecycle management. Post merger, I moved into the channel marketing team. It was a fast paced, high exposure role as a campaign manager – leading the student campaign and dual branding concepts of the 3 stores.
In my role now, I work on premium SMS products, a $25 million portfolio. I love it, as I’m learning so much, such as stakeholder management, analytical skills, and exposure to ACMA. Vodafone has helped me in achieving my own personal development ambitions. I’ve been supported and helped by a broad mix of people. One of my personal goals is to always develop myself in areas I am unfamiliar with.
With the help of Vodafone, I don’t think I’ll ever stop learning.
